Ryland chuckled, "I suppose you'll want to save seeing how far the city has fallen for later then."

Ryland shrugged, "I could take you around the city to see what a wonderful job Carden has done with the place."

Ryland chuckled, "That sounds like more than enough."

Ryland propped himself up on his elbow, just looking at her for a moment.

"Why do you bother with me?" Ryland's face held a relaxed expression it usually didn't show.

Ryland shrugged. "We both know I'm not the best for the job here. Then again Carden was enough of a screw up that I could have been a blind puppy and the city would still have fallen."

Ryland chuckled. "You're right again." He frowned slightly, "Things have been far too easy lately."

Ryland continued thinking about it and wondered if it was possible that the Protectors had put someone incompetent in charge on purpose in order to trap him.

Ryland looked a little confused but he stood up slowly. "Okay."

Ryland smiled back with a chuckle, "You should market whatever it is you do." She'd travelled to Chicago and spent a few hours waiting in the city and still looked great. He started heading for the door.

Ryland stopped at the door and shrugged a little awkwardly. "If you don't mind."

Ryland's brows furrowed a little, "My what?"
